If you are ready for portraits of your child that are modern but timeless, and that really show your child's true personality, I'm your gal. As a parent of three humans myself, I have been super disappointed in some of the offerings that come home for our school portraits. Crazy backdrops, confusing ordering processes... the list goes on. This is partially what inspired me to get into school portrait work- I thought to myself, "It has to be better than this?!"
Fast forward to 2014 when I started working with my first preschools. I really loved so many aspects of this work, and I still do! My favorite part, though, is connecting with your child. If they don't connect with me, then the camera is just a big hunk of junk between us. I have so many tricks up my sleeve to induce smiles and giggles, but I can also tell when I have a quiet, shy soul in front of me. I will patiently honor their energy, encourage confidence, and help them shine.
I always recommend a slightly new or new shirt for portrait day. It just helps them look super fresh and cute. This is not a requirement though. I also recommend staying away from neon colors, busy patterns, and large logos on clothing- anything that will distract from eye colors, lashes, and other details that you love.
Every child is different, and some kids need time to process what's happening. This is ok. I often find that the kids who have a hard time one year, come back to me the following year and are super ready to have their photo taken because they remember me and had time to process. I try my best, and if they still won't budge, we can still get some beautiful photos of them just as they are.
Bring it! Some of my favorite photos are of children with their favorite stuffed animal or toy. When they get older, they will be the images they and their family treasure most.
Ordering windows are typically as follows:
✔️ one week to order with free shipping & school drop off
✔️ four weeks total to order prints and tangible products
✔️ entire school year to order digital files; galleries are typically removed in May or June to prepare for the following school year
If your school has arranged a class photo, then yes! These are often included in the first ordering window with a minimum purchase. Class photos are offered as a print product only, as each family has their own online preferences.
My style is focused on dynamic portraits of children with a simple backdrop style. That being said, I do enjoy offering more elaborate sets with props in the spring. If you'd like to see samples of what I can offer your school, please email me and we can plan a spring picture day, too!
